Commentary on Foreigners (c. 1420), Ming Official He Ao He Ao was a censor, a high official in the provincial bureaucracy of the Ming Empire. The censorate was part of the central state. Responsible directly to the emperor, it was tasked with rooting out corruption at the local level. This document, in which He describes the threats posed by Europeans (called Feringis), is an official government report to his superiors. Identify the factors He used to mark foreigners as different, and evaluate their relative significance. Pay special attention to his language and the terms he used. What specific threats resulting from European influence does He identify, and what remedies does he propose? Explain the distinction this document draws between the way trade was conducted in the past (in the “time of our ancestors”) and in the present. What is He’s view of commerce? The book we are working on is a history of 'Project Galaxy' from its inception in the 2340's through to the early 2400's, we are more interested in the why rather than the how to look at some of the decisions that went into building and deploying the Galaxy Class Starships. 3/4
SAUCER SECTION RECOVERY: In accordance with the PRIME DIRECTIVE, it is imperative that the ENTERPRISE saucer section, now resting on Veridian III, be recovered or dismantled to prevent any potential contamination of the local environment and ensure compliance with STARFLEET’s non-interference policies. Part IX FINAL REMARKS The loss of the Enterprise is a profound and deeply personal tragedy for me. The Enterprise was more than just a ship; she was a symbol of our mission, our ideals, and our commitment to exploration and peace. The destruction of such a fine vessel, a ship that carried us through so many challenges and triumphs, is a loss that I will carry with me for the rest of my life. As her captain, I must accept full responsibility for the events that led to her demise. While the circumstances were extraordinary and the threats we faced were formidable, the ultimate responsibility for the ship’s safety rests with me. I will reflect on these events and learn from them, ensuring that the lessons drawn from this tragedy will guide my future actions and decisions. Despite the outcome, I must express my unwavering confidence in the crew of the Enterprise. Their actions in the face of overwhelming odds were nothing short of exemplary. In particular, Commander William Riker demonstrated extraordinary leadership and tactical acumen during the battle. He did everything within his power to save the ship and her crew, and his decisions undoubtedly saved countless lives. Commander Riker’s bravery, quick thinking, and dedication were critical in ensuring that the majority of our crew survived this ordeal. While the Enterprise herself may be lost, the spirit and resolve of her crew remain unbroken. I am proud of every member of this crew, and I am confident that together, they will face whatever challenges lie ahead with the same courage and determination that defined our time aboard the Enterprise. #StarTrekGenerations may not be the best film, but it holds a special place in our hearts and although a shame to see 1701-D destroyed it never looked as good as on the big screen. We wanted to try justify how a Bird of Prey could defeat the flagship, to try and give context. 2/4
The cyber attack significantly weakened the ENTERPRISE’s structural integrity, particularly in its warp core containment fields. The damage sustained during the battle triggered a warp core breach. Commander RIKER ordered an emergency saucer separation to preserve crew lives. The stardrive section was subsequently destroyed in the resulting explosion. Despite the separation, the shockwave from the stardrive section’s destruction destabilized the saucer’s orbit, causing it to crash land on the surface of VERIDIAN III. The cyber attack's effects had also compromised several key systems in the saucer section, including navigation and impulse control, resulting in an uncontrolled descent. The saucer section suffered extensive damage, rendering it irrecoverable for further use. Fortunately, due to the crew’s training and emergency procedures, the majority of personnel survived with minimal casualties. System Torpedo hits to Secondary Hull Deck 33 and Deck 31 Disruptor hit to Secondary Hull Deck 35 Torpedo hit to Secondary Hull Shuttle Bay 2 Destroyed Disruptor hit to Port Nacelle Disruptor hit to Primary Impulse exhaust Damage Control All automated DC systems were lost. Central station disabled. Patrol I abandoned due to loss of communication. Repair II abandoned due to fire, smoke, and fumes. Fire fighting and damage control measures were attempted by Repair III, General Quarters Damage Control Personnel, and volunteers surrounded the entire damaged area. Cessation of these measures was necessitated by vacuum and lack of emergency force fields. Malicious code disrupted warp core ejection system. Part V Special Comments Computer Systems: Deployment of the malicious code was opportunistic but analysis shows it to have been extremely effective and presumably developed prior to engagement, it is plausible the DURAS’ had been refining the code since our first encounter with them on Stardate 44995.3 The code once deployed was self replicated and intelligent. It was able to bypass numerous kill-chain and defensive measures turning the MAGI’s own architecture against itself The computer would give false returns to requests for information by crew leading to delay in critical orders being carried our and severely hampering the ENTERPRISE’s response to the attack The Malicious code continued to affect the ships even after the D-12 had been destroyed, but that point it had started a concerted effort to initiate a warp core breach and was attempting to override safety protocols to ensure the destruction of the ship Communication: Internal communication was severely hampered by cyber attack slowing DC response and hampering diagnosis of the cyber attack Navigation: Damage to main impulse resulted in severe loss of maneuverability, forced to rely on secondary impulse engines Damage to Port Nacelle resulted in loss of Warp Drive Engineering: Isolinier breakers on primary distribution board tripped out. EPS pressure was lost immediately in the engine room, causing No. 1 and No. 4 EPS mains and all auxiliaries forward to stop. Deflector control room abandoned at about 18:12. Immediately after the main impulse drive was lost on No. 3 fusion generator but 25 pascals of plasma pressure was maintained on #2 main reactor. No. plasma conduit and flushing pump was running at maximum speed maintaining main pressure of 1002 lbs in the engine room. No. 3 & No. 4 main fusion reactors continued to run. No. 4 injectors continued to supply engine room with full plasma pressure (3000 lbs). Medical: The attack caused a number of casualties, exact number not known. The majority seen before the ship separated suffered from severe plasma burn and fractured extremities. First aid treatment was being given up to the time the ship crashed. Part VI Personnel Performance and Casualties No Comments. Submitted in separate correspondence. Part VII Analysis The DURAS sisters’ cyber attack, enabled by their acquisition of the ENTERPRISE’s shield frequencies, was a critical factor in the ship’s downfall. This incident underscores the necessity of advanced encryption and secure shield frequency modulation protocols to prevent similar vulnerabilities in the future. Additionally, STARFLEET must prioritize the development of counter-cyber warfare measures to defend against such sophisticated attacks. The dual focus on ground and space operations presented significant challenges in coordination and resource allocation. The separation of command roles, while necessary under the circumstances, revealed areas where improved communication and strategic planning could have mitigated risks. The rapid cascade failure following damage to the warp nacelles and the cyber attack disabling of critical systems highlights a potential vulnerability in the GALAXY-class starship’s design, specifically regarding warp core stability under combat conditions. This warrants further research and development to enhance the resilience of critical systems. Part VIII Recommendations SHIELD MODULATION SECURITY: STARFLEET must prioritize the implementation of more secure, adaptive shield technologies to prevent future compromises. COUNTER-CYBER WARFARE CAPABILITIES: STARFLEET must develop advanced countermeasures against cyber attacks, ensuring that ships can defend themselves against the type of sophisticated cyber warfare employed by the DURAS sisters.

Action Report _________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Commander Starfleet Stardate:48655.2 From: ENTERPRISE COMMANDING OFFICER J.L PICARD To: The Commander-in-Chief, Starfleet. Via: Commander-in-Chief, Exploratory Command. Subject - ACTION REPORT-USS ENTERPRISE (NCC-1701-D) IN ORBIT VERIDIAN III – INCLUDING CIRCUMSTANCES OF THE RESULTANT LOSS OF THE SHIP Part I This action report has been compiled to document the series of events leading to the destruction of USS Enterprise. The sequence of events began with the investigation of the Amargosa Observatory and culminated in the crash landing of the Enterprise saucer section on Veridian III. GENERAL NARRATIVE On Stardate 48632.4, ENTERPRISE responded to a distress call originating from the AMARGOSA OBSERVATORY, a Federation scientific outpost in the Amargosa system. The observatory reported an attack by an unidentified vessel. Starfleet Command directed ENTERPRISE to investigate the situation, secure the facility, and assist any survivors. Upon arrival, ENTERPRISE found the observatory in a state of severe damage, with primary systems offline and no immediate signs of the attackers. An away team, led by Commander RIKER, was dispatched to the station. The team discovered several survivors and initiated repairs to the station’s systems to recover critical data. Among the survivors was Dr. Tolian SORAN, an El-Aurian scientist who exhibited unusual behavior, displaying extreme urgency unrelated to the recent attack. Lieutenant Commander DATA retrieved logs indicating that SORAN had been conducting unauthorized experiments involving trilithium, a compound capable of disrupting stellar fusion. Upon this discovery SORAN launched the stellar probe at the AMARGOSA star, triggering a quantum implosion in the star triggering a collapse along with a level 12 shockwave, Commander RIKER and away team was dispatched to apprehend SORAN and retrieve personnel on the station During the away team’s efforts to confront SORAN a firefight broke out, SORAN took CHIEF ENGINEER GEORDI LAFORGE hostage and escaped aboard a KLINGON vessel. Despite efforts to stop him, SORAN successfully transported off the station with LAFORGE, leaving the away team to return to the ENTERPRISE with critical data but unable to prevent SORAN’s escape or the destruction of the AMARGOSA Star. Given the destructive potential of the trilithium and SORAN’s actions, it was imperative to pursue and intercept him. STARFLEET Intelligence provided background on SORAN, noting his obsession with the NEXUS, a spatial phenomenon capable of manipulating space-time. It was concluded that SORAN intended to use the trilithium to alter the course of the NEXUS, potentially threatening entire star systems. The intelligence briefing highlighted SORAN’s history as one of the few survivors of the NEXUS event that destroyed the EL-AURIAN homeworld. His obsession with re-entering the NEXUS suggested that he might be willing to take extreme measures, including the destruction of inhabited star systems, to achieve his goal. ENTERPRISE tracked the KLINGON BIRD-OF-PREY to the VERIDIAN system, specifically VERIDIAN III, where sensors detected SORAN’s activities on the planet’s surface. Analysis revealed that SORAN intended to destroy the VERIDIAN star to alter the NEXUS’s path, which would result in the obliteration of the VERIDIAN system, including the heavily populated VERIDIAN IV. I negotiated temporary passage to the surface of VERIDIAN III via the KLINGON vessel, offering myself as a hostage in exchange for LAFORGE and the opportunity to confront SORAN. Commander RIKER remained in command of ENTERPRISE. On the planet, I engaged SORAN at his makeshift launch facility, where he had already positioned a trilithium probe. Part II SPACE ENGAGEMENT WITH KLINGON D-12 Chief Engineer LAFORGE was cleared to return to duty following medical examination by CMO CRUSHER and he resumed his duties in Engineering, Unbeknownst to LAFORGE or any other personnel the DURAS’ Sisters had installed a subspace quantum nanite transceiver into the VISOR apparatus LAFORGE uses to see, this allowed them secure real time transmission of data from the VISOR to their D-12 that was largely undetectable to ships sensors or security. Through the VISOR the DURAS were able to learn the shield modulation frequencies The DURAS sisters, known for their expertise in cyber warfare, had exploited the ship's compromised shield modulation frequencies, allowing them to conduct a sophisticated cyber attack against the ENTERPRISE’s computer systems. This attack crippled the ENTERPRISE’s ability to respond effectively, causing widespread system failures, including critical safety systems designed to prevent hull breaches and automatically enable defenses in the event of an attack. As the attack progressed, vital systems such as the warp core stabilizers, inertial dampeners, and emergency force fields were compromised. The ENTERPRISE was rendered vulnerable, unable to perform even basic tactical maneuvers or mount an effective defense. The DURAS sisters' cyber assault left the ENTERPRISE essentially defenseless and led to catastrophic failures throughout the ship as the crew struggled to overcome, personnel had to form manual relays and man secondary and tertiary backups to engage weapon systems and load torpedoes manually. Through quick thinking and a tactical exploit discovered by Lieutenant Commander DATA, the ENTERPRISE managed to deliver a decisive strike that destroyed the KLINGON vessel. However, the damage to the ENTERPRISE was already beyond repair.
