Finally, our team member Auxiliadora Pérez Vides presented her paper "Disposability and Violence against Women: A Noir Resignification in Benjamin Black’s Quirke Series", proving the concomitance of human categorisation and stigmatisation with practices of disposability and violence against women.

They questioned the ways in which contemporary narratives re-signify bodies, affects, and spaces that have been culturally and economically coded as useless, wasted, or stigmatized.

Next, our team members @jtorferna.bsky.social, Vladyslav Shapoval and Isaac Linton Clewes presented their roundtable titled "Trans-Formative Narratives: Re-signifying Stigma, Waste and Queer Use in a post 9/11 World"

In addition, our team member @pgarrod.bsky.social presented her paper “'It’s my body!': Reclaiming the Deviant Body of the Monstrous Woman through Horror in Queen of Teeth (2021)”.

She argued that the misused, monstrous body becomes a liminal space of resistance, self-acceptance and conciliation.

They examined the ways in which contemporary texts re-signify bodies through transformative narrative practices, embodied trans* practices (Halberstam, Hayward and Weinstein), and critical posthumanist perspectives (Ferrando, Braidotti) as tools for cultural reconstruction in post 9/11 narratives.

✏️ First, meet our wonderful PI Prof. Belén Martín Lucas. She is a Professor at the University of Vigo, has co-founded research group BiFeGa and has led different research projects. Her main research interests are feminist studies, postcolonial and decolonial studies and Canadian studies.
