It really shouldn't be controversial to say this, but the average European is way more racist than the average American. A lot of the real issues with immigrants in Europe are caused by their racism, but they have an astounding lack of self-awareness about it.

Of course it's different when you're talking about a totalitarian state with massive propaganda campaigns to demonize Jews. I'm talking about democratic or semi-democratic societies where secularization happened organically.

Yet despite that, most people who believed in racial anti-Semitism were religious. It's not a huge leap from believing Jews are eternally responsible for the death of Jesus to thinking they are intrinsically evil as a race.

I have my doubts it will get as bad as pre-WWII levels, simply because secular anti-Semitic ideas appealed to most people in the Western world because they already believed Jews were Christ-killers. That is not the case anymore, especially since Westerners are still becoming less religious.
