Signal modernization.

The MTA plans to install Communications-Based Train Control (CBTC) on the subway's 6th Avenue Line (B/D/F/M), Crosstown Line (G), and Fulton Line (A/C).

Since having CBTC installed, the 7 and L have been the subway's best-performing lines.

A new M8 train 8 cars long would cost nearly the same as a single battery locomotive. Furthermore, 14 miles of new catenary wire would cost about the same as a single new consist of 8 coaches.

EMUs and wires are far more performant—and far cheaper.

Lieber cites fare evasion concerns when in reality, all-door boarding also eases enforcement as everyone will have proof of payment. Another positive of this feature.

It's time to enable all-door boarding and speed up bus service for New Yorkers.
