Played one of my originals at an open mic in Sarasota, FL.
Wrote this one while actually driving and thinking about everything I let go of when I went full-time van life.
“Driving Down the Highway.”

Sometimes you find magic in the most unexpected places.
Four years ago I met Sue in New Salem, ND. This time she gave me rainbows and a fiery sunset. A cow on a hill to some, but to me a reminder of why I travel. #NorthDakota #RoadTrip #Vanlife #SalemSue

Laughed, cried, played music, saw a moose in the driveway, even got a haircut in the most Jackson way possible. Most of all, I celebrated Kailee & Lachlan with family. Full story: travelswithmartin.substack.com/p/two-weeks-...

Somewhere on the climb over Togwotee Pass, the Tetons began to take shape... faint at first, then sharper with every turn, until they rose sudden and jagged, like someone had carved them straight out of the sky. #Wyoming #RoadTrip #GrandTetonNationalPark

Someone asked me why I travel so much.
Why the van, the miles, the wandering.

So I wrote it down.

Because I can.

Check out my latest Substack post.

And I’m grateful every day that I get to.

Day 3 is in the books. Coffee & work at Southern Girl Coffee in Oxford, AL. Played 10-hole course in Franklin, TN with another van guy. Showered up, walked the Honky Tonk Highway (meh), and had a killer whole hog sandwich at Martin’s BBQ. Crashed at a rest stop.

First stop heading North: Olympus Disc Golf in Brooksville, FL, #1 in Florida, #80 in the world. Played 4 hours in 93° with a couple cool guys I met on the first tee. Started strong, faded late in the heat, shot 3 over on the “short” course (which wasn’t very short). Solid start to the trip.

Time to hit the road. I've got about 3 weeks to get to Jackson Hole for a family event leaving from Sarasota, FL. I’ll be passing through Birmingham, Nashville, St. Louis, Omaha, and Denver, seeing friends, playing disc golf daily, working from coffee shops, and exploring along the way.

I have friends driving east to west in a few months and they've asked for my thoughts on how to go. These are my two thoughts....

Been thinking about my visit to New Orleans in 2022.
January 24, 2025 at 1:18 AM
The handful of times I've left New Orleans and headed west, I've taken route 10 through Baton Rouge. I think I'll go south this time, through Houma to Lafayette, and check things out. Any suggestions along this route? Just waiting for the snow to disappear.

Here's my first BlueSky post to get an idea what this new platform is about.

I'm Martin.... I travel around in my Van.

At the moment, I am outside of New Orleans where it snowed... SNOWED!!... in New Orleans!! Up to 8 inches!!
