... showing multiple galaxy maps conveys different properties - but we can't watch them all at once... I'm interested in sound to enhance perception of data, and find new things! If you have application ideas, try our STRAUSS sonification code (github.com/james-trayfo...), or let me know! 🧪🔭⚡🐡

...Temperature illustrates the hot outflowing gas corresponding to the windy sound - pale plumes emanate from the central region. Sonification allows us to represent this with sound while visualising something else - such as starlight - so we can impart more dimensions of the data at once! 🧪🔭⚡🐡

The sophisticated COLIBRE simulations finally land on the arXiv: arxiv.org/abs/2508.21126. Treating these with sonification, we can get new intuition for galaxy evolution to augment our visuals. Sound on for the explainer vid, visit the site for more! colibre.strw.leidenuniv.nl/videos.html 🔭🧪

Through diverse perspectives, we discover a lot. We found composite rhythms in calypso ideal for representing many planets at once, which we will build on. Arron guided us musically, providing the joyful incidental music, instrument recordings and endless enthusiasm...(3/n)🧪🔭🐡 #edusky #musiciansky

... we can see (hear!) how the a stellar population may tell us about it's age. A young population appears blue as massive and hot bright stars dominate, but as these age stars die and we're left with a dim, red population. Galaxy colours tell us about their formation histories (cred. in alt) 🔭...

Progress! Star lives with sonification 🌟🔉. Models colour evolution from 0.3-150 sun masses. A higher note indicates higher main sequence temperature, shifting with post-MS temperature pre-death. They go 'bang' if they then go supernova or 'whoosh' if they blow out to leave a white dwarf. 🌌🔭🧪💽🐡...

Some more little simulated guys... this particular model has been superseded now, but they did all did their job for calibration 🫡. What's your favourite? 🧪🌌🔭 #cosmology

Nice to see this place filling up - back from my travels in the US last few weeks collaborating with STScI - very excited to see the JWST mission control! We're working an a very cool new interface for exploring telescope data with sound watch (hear?) this Space! 🌌🔭🎧
