What was the first English-language review of Metroid, I hear you ask? Steve Harris and the USNVGT (who would later go on to create EGM magazine) wrote about the Playchoice-10 version (which arrived just a bit before the NES version) for trade mag Play Meter (May 1987):

Metroid ake a character that resembles an odd-shaped humanoid and dress him up in some colorful duds. Now, give him the ability to run and jump, so that he can avoid numerous obstacles like alien creatures and canyons filled with molten lead. Next, provide our friend with a gun, enabling him to dispatch the nasties that are in constant pursuit while collecting the energy they occasionally leave behind to sustain himself. Also, hide various objects around the environment that will increase his firepower, let him roll up into a ball to sneak under impasses, and accomplish other amazing feats. Been done before, you say? Maybe, but never with as much flair or with the attention to detail that’s evident in Metroid, the latest card release for Nintendo’s something-for-everyone gaming system, the Play Choice-10. Metroid consists of a number of search and destroy missions, taking players across an ever-changing landscape that is riddled with tunnels, canyons, crawlways, etc. Throughout the course of each round players encounter a wide variety of obstacles ranging from alien creatures to walls that require specific weapons to destroy. Each enemy has a_ unique personality that make him an easy (or tricky) target. The real attraction of Metroid, however, is derived from the sheer size of the environment in which the player interacts, as well as the almost limitless number of paths that can be taken to achieve a common goal. The screen scrolls both vertically and horizontaliy to accommodate the action, taking Metroid through countless encounters and across all types of terrain. Game play is based on_ energy consumption, with power losses occurring whenever the player comes in contact with an alien or when Metrojdfalls into lava. Energy can be regained occasionally when an alien is eliminated. Sometimes the alien will leave a glowing pellet in its wake, which can then be collected. The animation of most of the characters and the backgrounds are adequate, but the graphics of the Metroid character are detailed and humorous. Metroid moves with a lumbering style and somersaults head over heels in mid-air whenever the player jumps or when Metroid rolls up into a ball to get under low ceilings. Metroid is a great game that is perfectly suited for the Play Choice-10 system. The size of the playfields allow for some exciting journeys, and the ever-changing surroundings guarantee a new challenge with every step. Definitely a superior game that will have players forming lines and giving the Play Choice-10 system a first class workout!

Also I just found out about upcoming help.obsidian.md/bases, which is maybe interesting? Seems like a replacement for DataView/DataCore, which are plugins to let you generate page content with queries/code over all your content.

Might be possible to ask @whistberry.bsky.social to drop “hwa” as a hashtag for the feed or maybe get it to match only on exact matches rather than the partial match it seems to be doing?

Feeds can do anything any algorithm can do, but most of them are basically precanned searches. I think the Korean stuff is because of #hwa?
