Warning Coordination Meteorologist for the NWS in Portland, Oregon.
Am happy to see local media sharing severe weather safety tips. Severe thunderstorms are not common in the Pacific NW, and tips like these can save lives and property.

I am very impressed with the thunderstorm potential for western OR and WA tomorrow. Have not seen this in my 14 years working at the NWS Portland WFO.

This is what happens when 18F goes away: beta.weather.gov has been deactivated, “due to the loss of critical federal staff, which leaves this project without the resources to continue its development or for routine monitoring and maintenance.”

This cute kitty has been hanging around in my yard the past few weeks. My pets do not like this. The orange kitty is patiently trying to win them over. The strategy of blocking my cats access to the house by sitting in front of the door has not won them over.

It was a rough day for NOAA today. My heart goes out to those that lost their jobs today, and those who remain to pick up the pieces. Grateful that we are a strong community and have many partners that value our work. www.statesmanjournal.com/story/news/l...
