If I am Canada or Mexico, I am doing everything I can to decouple from the U.S. economy in case we try something like this again and they can’t just trade away something they are already doing. That won’t be good for the U.S. It will be good for China, India and maybe Russia.
No matter what happens with tariffs, the damage to the US-Canada relationship could last a generation.
