NYC! New zine just dropped! "Who is this Zohran Mamdani Guy Running for Mayor?"

It's got important dates, what he plans to do as mayor, how he'll pay for it, why a little socialism is good for us: the regular people, etc!

And of course you can print your own!

A weekend pleasure is walking to the bookstore to pick up books I've ordered. So excited to read these new editions from the brilliant @triciamatthew.bsky.social! Wonderful introductions, rich and learned and: "I have a soft spot for Northanger Abbey. Its first line is hilarious." So. True. 😄
Two books side by side, new editions of Jane Austen's Northanger Abbey on the left and Pride and Prejudice on the right, the first bright blue and the second bright pink. Both with silhouettes containing images.

Yes. And it (his reasoning) didn’t hold up to Remnick’s (gentle) probing. I think if you spend too much time around people whose ideas you actually hate, you lose a sense of your own possible shortcomings. (Also, HEY, YOU! :-))

Yeah, I think he’s out of his depth. In the interview he talked briefly about the Trump supporters in his circle…I think he’s seeing the whole crisis from the PoV of people he likes. He also *seemed* shook by Coates’ critique.

Listening to Ezra Klein on the New Yorker Radio Hour and he seems astonishingly naive. It’s telling that he clings to an Obama USA that even Obama admits wasn’t real. I am sure he’s good at a certain kind of thinking, but I think he REALLY doesn’t get what’s happening.

“Researching Austen’s allegedly shoplifting aunt was a lot more fun than you might think.”

You might think you know everything Austen, but did you know about her shoplifting aunt?

Wonderful conversation with Saidiya Hartman & Dionne Brand on "Salvage" which revisits and recontextualizes 18th & 19th c. novels.

Y’all,
I have hurt my knee. I am on the mend and can get around okay but the airport is too much. I’m in a wheel chair—playing the theme to Perry Mason on the way to my gate to cheer myself up.
