Is there any demographic for which housing costs are rising? As population ages, and given that older people tend to be home owners, can it be that housing costs are rising for working age population (and specially young people)? That might be the issue

I think this plan should be read as “don’t look woke or female” and nothing more to it. Thats what it’s popular, at least among the swing voters.

El Foster Wallace te un llibre molt bo narrant la seva experiencia en un creuer. Es diu “Una cosa suposadament divertida que mai tornaré a fer”.

I wouldn’t describe Thiel’s thought as rationalist though. He’s a Straussian/Scmittian and has written about the theological origin of politics in the past.

I think a naive model of politics being cyclical and mean reverting would explain most of it. All other considerations are noise and makes us miss the point. Biden couldnt do anything better it was just the end of the political cycle.

This has always been terrifying to me

Well, i would say they framed individualism and unwillingness to compromise as a progressive beyond. I think it was the spirit of the times and it had right and left wing flavours.

I would say punk and neoliberalism, or today’s libertarians, shared the time’s individualism and cynicism and it looks bad now when confronting the consequences lf it.

How does a 401k generate value. What does Marx say about fictitious capital?
April 25, 2025 at 5:58 PM
I mean not people beig poor, which has been a constant throughout history.
April 23, 2025 at 3:46 PM
I guess that has been said already, but all this vitriol it’s funny to me given that Marx himself would see the french revolution explained by the rising wealth of the burgeoisie, that’s all historical materialism is about.

On the other hand, right wing parties are rising in european small towns with high immigration. There is lf course no single causality but i feel it’s a more general trend.

I feel like it’s a red queen race scenario just like between any social media and bots, slop and scammers. Parallel to what happens in the evolutionary history of a species and it’s pathogens.

Yes, the atlantic route (through canary islands) is the main immigration route to europe now, but only becouse the EU is spending a lot of money to control all other routes which were more important. I’m from spain and i don’t think anyone is willing to pursue any significant asylum policy.
March 10, 2025 at 7:08 PM
I wouldn’t say it is, there is less immigration and way less asylum seekers in spain compared to the rest of europe. The national far right party is more focused on hate against secessionist regions and feminist advances than immigration. The far right support is similar to the rest of europe though

Center-left party in coalition with some party at it’s left. They implemented rent regulation policies, almost doubled minimum wage, and pushed an ambitious feminist agenda. On immigration they’re neutral but they’re going to regularize all ilegal migrants living in spain.

Pero eso es verdad incluso en una crisis no? Incluso en la crisis en españa el desempleo afectó a un 25% de la población y un 100% de la población estaria de acuerdo en que la situación económica era mala.
