Why make ppl cross the street when the light lets cars turn???
I’d prefer if all pedestrians to crossed while cars waited then cars N/S then W/E then back to pedestrians/cycles/scooters etc.

Mikel got us this far and keeps pushing.
The board has strengthened financial positions and invested heavily.
It is always a process!

Exacerbated during rush hour and events in the area
Pretty ironic that taking the bus to avoid adding to congestion my bus is stuck in grid lock because people can’t turn left on 18th 🤷🏻♂️

Oh and now heavy transport in the loop M-F from 6am to 6pm

But this can also be applied to rail systems and other mass transportation options

Believe the light timing would help increase safety. Including sensors in the bike and sidewalks to modulate the lights. This tech is available and in use across the country.

The Canal & 18th intersection is way more dangerous, always seeing crashes there.
18th St needs a full redesign from Halstead to Indiana

We should demand a safer intersection for all users
New curbs narrow are too wide, see tire marks where cars rubbed along the curb
Light timing not updated to work with the new intersection
Must be done better

Do those light green sections have to be concrete or just designated?

I want them but they must be done right.

The bike lane is the perfect size
The islands are too wide
The inner distance between islands needs to be wider about a foot on each side
Need to allow left turns as well
Light sequence must reflect this along 18th from Halstead to Indiana
✌🏼🤟🏼🤘🏼

It should not have started without a proper study applied to selected the optimum intersection design.
18th is a ‘major’ cross town route for all.
Maybe some of these intersections need to be roundabout.

Please do not use the same flippant comment that car drivers use about cyclists “they think they own the road!” 🙄
Of all the PBL intersections in Chicago this is the WORST
A better design that protects drivers cyclists and pedestrians is needed
