December, 2025 - to Florida to visit family. While there, one can potentially explore the unique culture of the area. Airboat tours, gigantic theme parks with long lines to navigate, or roadside fruit stands. There are many Florida Citrus Centers. Kitschy & fun
take home a shark, if desired. we opted out of that. a gator head for the mantle. umm, no. but they are available in several sizes to match one's needs. Coconut pirates? Why not! Mural on the side of the Florida Citrus Center. The orange juice we sampled was delicious, btw. Lots of fresh fruit for sale onsite.

November, 2025: Costa Rica - and my first stamp in a passport. We joined a National Geographic group to learn about the ecological efforts in the 6th happiest country in the world. I see why.
a hotel lobby displays fabulous blooms in a miniaturized version of the carts that were traditionally used to transport coffee beans from farms to the cities for processing and distribution. There's a lot of geothermal activity in Costa Rica, and they put it to good use. Geothermal power is one. Hot springs for tourists is another. Foliage and flowers everywhere. Our NatGeo guides were consistently able to help us find and see the wildlife as we walked trails or floated through the mangroves in the various environments we visited. The colors and variety of animals and birds we saw was astonishing.

October, 2025: off-the-beaten-path trip through... Iowa? Well, yeah, it turns out there's beautiful and interesting things everywhere. One stop was to the National Czech & Slovak Museum, Cedar Rapids, IA. Sadly, we found no clarity on what defines a kolache.

September, 2025: We attended the West Point [Nebraska] Car Show for the first time since the pandemic. Vintage, antique, and highly modified cars abound. OLGLORY caught my attention.
Vintage pickup truck with its hood open, painted in a bold American flag theme—blue with white stars on the front, red and white stripes along the sides. A U.S. flag is mounted at the rear, and the Nebraska license plate reads “OLGLORY.” The truck was an entry at the 2025 West Point Nebraska Car Show.

I'm trying out a wide-angle lens on a mirrorless camera, and enjoying the bokeh when you open up the aperture. This flower grew in a planter at our home. The fuzz you see is from a nearby cottonwood tree that inundates our yard every year. Not a fan.

What better way to accentuate the visit to this very unusual destination but to visit the Borax Museum!

A for avocado!

I was fortunate enough to have been in Costa Rica recently with a National Geographic tour. I was served this delightful avocado soup during one of the lunch stops. Fantastic!

This natural alcove is dark and smooth inside, shaped by time, weather, and fire. The air around the tree is cool and earthy, filled with the scent of pine needles and damp wood. Rock City in Minneapolis, Kansas is a five acre park which contains about 200 huge Dakota sandstone concretions. The spheres are up to 27 feet in diameter and you are encouraged to climb on them and do pretty much whatever you want. Rock City claims that there is no place else in the world with so many huge concretions.
