Welcome to September!

Did I happen to mention there's a new issue of Trollbreath Magazine available? And did I happen to mention that Trollbreath Magazine is now open for submissions for our Spring/Summer 2026 issues?

No?

Well now I have!

No worries, they'll all be run by AI because the AI they are creating solves everything and can plug in its own wires. No workers needed. Right?

Right?

Guys? Help me out here.

Anyone?

Oh shit....

Wait, wait... that means I'm antifascism!

You guys, I always wanted to grow up and become an 'ISM! Dream realized!
A round patch for sewing on clothing. It has a red border around the edge. Just inside the edge are the words "Sometimes anti-social; Always anti-fascist." Inside the words, which follow the border, there are three red flowers with green stems four additional unopened blossoms.

Living in Baltimore, I missed Maine autumn leaves, all the vibrant colors. Baltimore seemed so muted. Then I drove by the reservoir and was astonished to see how beautiful it was.

I wrote the scene shortly after, back in the late 1990's. It hardly changed between then and 2021 when I published it.

The fall foliage around these reservoirs has always been stunning, and there are nice drives near and through them. If you're in the Baltimore area, this it the time to start checking your foliage reports and taking long drives, so don't miss these locations.

I wanted to highlight the picture that frames this story. This is the Loch Raven reservoir north of Baltimore, showing early fall color. Its nearby sister to the west, the Liberty reservoir, was the inspiration for one of the opening scenes of "Shadow of a Doubt," my self-published noir fantasy.

I swear to Pluto, king of the underworld and recently demoted dwarf planet, if we lose Dolly before that shit flinging anal prolapse in the white house, I'm going to be VERY upset.

(appears this was just a kidney stone incident, she's fine, we're fine, we're all fine here now... how are you?)
Dolly Parton's sister 'didn't mean to scare anyone' with call for prayers
The singer's sister had asked fans to pray for her after the star postponed gigs due to health issues.

You can find the answer here: bookshop.org/info/ebooks#...

The short answer is: DRM is controlled by publishers, not retailers (except for Amazon, which is a publisher AND retailer and has their own Kindle DRM).

This. All of this.

Fuck the oligarchs. Let's stop giving them money.

Last night I saw my first moose! 🫎 in the left lane , a foot from my car! All’s well, no hit. Let’s see, met Stephen King, saw a moose, what’s left on my Maine bingo card?

Rocket and Groot instead of Buffy and Angel. The strange ones, finding a family after years of physical torture, loneliness.

And again in Gamora and Nebula, how they stitched together lives from the pieces of all that anger and destruction and physical torment.

Awesome weirdos surviving.

Different fungi sprout from and around the skull, including red mushrooms with white spots, yellow fan-shaped mushrooms, gray cluster mushrooms, and orange bulbous mushrooms, with green and purple plants filling the background. A ribbon at the bottom of the skull reads “ADMIT ONE.”

Any time I have problems connecting to the office my first thought is never "must be technical issues," but instead is always "oh shit, am I getting fired? Oh fuck... did they lock me out of the system? Oh no...."

Then I get the email about technical problems.

Brains. They are true dipshits.

Lovely day for a long drive. We went to Ricker Hill Orchard, where we picked up some hard cider and some apple spice donuts. Starting to get some really beautiful color out there in the leaves now.

Uh… they already got past you. This marketing mail they sent me reeks of “I’m very badass.”

Love you, ACLU, but you way behind.

It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune, must be in want of a wife. Congress has not authorized the use of military force.

Positive, personal rejections are always nice, but it's a touch more painful when it's a really big market you had been dreaming of finally landing a piece in. I had really hoped for that sale and was excited when they held it. Alas... sigh... this, too, shall pass.

Fitting gif.

As I mentioned, no upgrade can be guaranteed to be the same for two people because no two systems are identical in every respect. In 20 plus years I've seen lots of failures, including seemingly identical systems with different outcomes. I once hosed half a Win NT network with an MS patch. Fun!

Good video on the decade and a half of computer tech use in learning and its correlation with declining test scores. It highlights similarities with the current LLM bubble and the tech industry's hard sell to schools.

AI is a perfect reflection of our new Misinformation Age, and will ruin learning.
