nubes oscuras nos impiden ver.

Os cães sentem o sobrenatural, afinal este é o ungido que apaga incêndios sozinho, à mão, sem sujar a camisa.

yep, a crumbling empire and social paradigm, and a slowly, but surely, visible, re-shifting of peripheral ideas around that seismic event.

In the euro colonial context, and what makes it so socially destructive in many ways, is that that slavery was based on the outright wrong notion of "race": the person looks like this, so it's ok to treat as market goods. That view of slavery's not universal, that "birthright" stigma of "bellowness"

Yeah, and "race", (and a bigger push for relativism to try to dispell that myth of human hierarchy), in anthropology.. few decades, probably few dozens of books. But that stuff obviously don't stick with the public. Not convenient, maybe. Even in this: nurture, not nature.

If you haven't read it yet, you might really like "the apoteosis of captain Cook" by Gananath Obeyesekere. It cuts really deep to deconstruct that colonial idea that non europeans were simple not only in material culture but also in symbolic thought.

Also, "legitimized" by the greatest mistakes of social sciences, the idea of "race", like the "alpha" idea, impossible to take away once it reached the general population. Neither by punishment, war, but by a "very convenient" mistake that made indistrial europe the pinacle of humanhood. So ironic.

I find it almost scary how most people don't have that perception things are a "process". Nothing is static, like you said, it's a process, and capitalism is just a temporary blight, not the "telos" one way or another, it's impossible to think otherwise having in mind how destructive it is.

I was talking with someone about this the other day. Trying to make sense of some modern bullshit he throws the "human nature sucks". I was like no!, your social economic system sucks, and it teaches and coerces people to suck. Humans have ~300k years of culture, a "nature". Such a shallow view.
