If people covered financially short term does that limit incentives for long term fixes. Flood mitigation, clean energy, etc.

As an infectious dis analogy, this may lead to lack of prevention if we have a treatment.

Complex issue but an interesting strategy. Will be following developments. 2/2

Do you have a source for additional details on financing this? The article was a bit light on who would be covered. Obviously worried that those most in need of relief may be left out if charges levied to those covered. Also a bit worried about moral hazard issues here. … 1/2

The GOP says the USDA food insecurity survey is “redundant, costly, politicized, and extraneous."

I say cutting it is “remarkably convenient” just as the GOP cuts SNAP benefits.

It’s a lot easier to hide the damage when you don’t collect the statistics!
USDA cancels survey tracking how many Americans struggle to get enough food
The Department of Agriculture said it will end a longstanding annual food insecurity survey. Experts say the move will obscure the effects of recent changes that will lead to people losing food aid.

Damage from Trump's $8B energy hit list would spill into GOP districts
The department targeted 16 blue states when canceling financial awards for 223 energy projects. But both parties will feel the impact.

“Pertussis falls into the category of vaccines that’s extremely helpful but not fully protective, so we need to keep our immunity rates as best we can to protect the little ones,” he said.

The ACA subsidies @ center of this fight will cost $358B in the next decade, 35.8B/year. Seems like a lot, but don’t forget that we’re set to send $20 billion to bail out Argentina just bc Milei is Trumps bro. In the big scheme it’s couch change but w/out it, millions can’t afford health insurance!

Trump and Vought are quite the pair. Trump is the little boy who got teased at the playground and is coming back for revenge. Vought is the evil lord-master who pulls the strings while hiding in the shadows.

Dividers in chief.

It’s an understatement to say Russ Vought is a terrible heartless person. I hope this shutdown brings him front and center so that America sees him for what he is.

Honest question from a place of ignorance: Has there been a previous director of OMB who has been given as much power and leeway by the president as Russ Vought? (One of those things I probably should know, but don’t.)

Just received my Colorado KP costs for 2026. My monthly premium went up by 71%. Co-pays by 66%. MRI went from $60 co-pay to $225. Dental from $1650 to down to $1500. That is on top of the monthly 2026 Medicare premium increase which has not yet been announced. So, Medicare is also going up.

Nice explanation on the importance of the ACA subsidies here.

While @pkrugman.bsky.social doesn’t say it, I also believe this is the GOP long game to be able to say the ACA is a failure. By taking away the subsidies, costs will explode, and people will drop coverage. Then GOP will try to end it.
