One of the things i picked up from Gunpla is the use of panel lining to enhance the detail. Maybe there is an similar (but slightly darker) ink colour that you could use in the recesses between armour plates? It's hard with a smaller model ofc but it might make some detail pop more.

I would say it's AN important step. Depending on what trade relationships develop to replace the US, there may be less or more emphasis on that aspect. I don't disagree with your sentiment though.
