Constant. Emotional. Whiplash

Mostly on Mastodon @[email protected] but spreading bets is the best way to not get trapped happen again.

Here to see games, music, and shitposts mostly. But also politics is the nightmare I can’t look away from.
It’s the best show ever and I have to scroll for ten minutes to ever see it mentioned! But, at least you did so I’m not totally alone in knowing nothing will better it 🫡

It is nonsense.
That’s why nobody says it.
Or would claim it’s something actual historians say…

Unless someone misunderstood a field of study, waded in with their “I’m a special clever boy badge” and tried to refute a claim *they’d made up*.

Surely nobody would be so publicly arrogant & ignorant?

Been behind one for years, I just think it’s insane that this unbelievably obvious workaround (raised in consultations for years) has been given the same lack of thought as the NI/IE/GB borders in 2016.

It’s even a product of the same idiots, but delivered by Labour; and a stupid gift to populists.

That’s clearly not what I was saying?

First I don’t think this is a legislation issue, it’s a social and parental issue.

If it must be legislated it should be targeted at specific platforms not *the entire internet*.

If it won’t be targeted, then listen to actual experts and plan implementation.

When your identity is stolen because you wanted to check something on Wikipedia, maybe you’ll see the problem this creates.

Handing your most private information to *unknown, overseas companies* is not a minor inconvenience!

I appreciate the aims, I really do. But the legislation is horrendously overreaching and fundamentally incompatible with privacy, liberty, and most ironically, safety.

All we get now is the worst of all outcomes.

The time to implement that was before enacting the law.

The years-long consultations where they were told it’s unworkable was the clue.

Now though, the options are mass surveillance and data exfiltration of your most private information, or a VPN.

Anything but parental responsibility I guess?

lol
If it was all just a licence to spill (was trying to think of an equally bad pun, think I managed it!) that’d be one thing - but it’s far more invasive and terribly thought through than that.
Eg, listening to music (your account is deleted if age check fails) support.spotify.com/uk/article/a...
Age restricted content and checking your age - Spotify

I’m happy for you, I hope that continues. Really consider your options if that changes though.
July 30, 2025 at 4:40 PM
Exactly! Now we just have to distribute an unencrypted copy of our face/passport to multiple unknown companies before we can be sure it’s safe to discuss anything they have to say.

You know, for the children.

BTW if you disagree you’re a sex offender (according to these sensible Labour folks).

The only tasks I’ve found it can do *at all* are boilerplate & spotting errors slightly quicker than enshittified/AI-ruined search engines.
It really is a cancer, it will never help with actual creative *anything*, is nowhere near worth the downsides, and now the arts are infighting over the ashes 😓

I also thought Vyke made sense, the really disturbing stuff with the three fingers could fit with Garland’s track record too. Failing to become Elden Lord would be way more interesting than an adaptation based on the average playthrough as well.
