TLDR; vtubing is becoming less cringe to the world at large and creeps are no longer having a fun time, as the characters or as the viewers. It’s Pokimane all the way down. And that might be better but it sure isn’t fun

And the people who liked what it was get left behind. Everyone is just as parasocial, but everyone is annoying all the time. The purity culture becomes the inverted version of the internet at large vs. the lonely creeps.

Old streamers who used to play silly cringe characters are losing the charm. They collab and interact with normal people who know and care very little about the origins of vtubing or the established culture, and the space becomes less welcoming to the creators who built it. So they adapt.

The point of the post is much less about making people stream as little anime avatars ONLY if they’re going to follow nebulous kayfabe purity culture, but about how the expanding vtubing scene is causing the original niche to collapse.

Secondly, saying “get less parasocial” is laughable when that’s the point. That’s always been the point. VTubers just put a layer of separation up. Normal streamers probably have it worse off to an extent. Not to say vtuber fans aren’t demons

Firstly, a major point these people are missing is that the post makes it clear the same creator is in the 2016 (vtubers barely existed then, especially in English, in the streaming way they do now, but whatever) and 2026 panels. The person did watch someone play a character, but that’s gone now

There is such an extreme, angry pushback against this post. Reactions have bounced between: “stop trying to control what people (women) do. You can just go watch someone who does keep up kayfabe. You hate to see a real woman and not a 12 year old anime child. Get less parasocial, creep”
