I think takes like these are likely "directionally true" but really sully the lesson Democrats need to learn, which is that we do NOT have a dedicated and weathered base of voters who will show up no matter what. Republicans do and have for 20 years.
Here's a somewhat contrarian view on the the presidential election: The results we've seen so far aren't particularly strong evidence of a deep shift toward Republicans among the American electorate.

Rather, it seems like a case of non-huge shifts having very big consequences.
