I talked about this Elsewhere, but I think probably even more important than "what defines political" is what is meant by "to cut off." I would expect there to be far more "I would never give up on my child" 'tough love' behavior, leading to the same thing, but not consciously intended.

I've been thinking a lot recently about these Kinds of things; regardless of prescriptive validity, virtue ethics seems shockingly effective at *describing* how personal traits function! Physical, intellectual (mindrot), or of course ethical: soulrot.
