Good article. As someone with personal experience on the Rondo bike gutter it might be good traffic calming but it's horrible bike infrastructure. The buffered lane directs you into the sidewalk at an intersection so cars can turn. Ride elsewhere.

It's not completely fair to say for them. If everyone does something one way the default behavior will be to mimic. Behaving differently will always take effort.
