In honor of Filipino American History Month, I highly recommend reading, How to Stand Up to a Dictator by @mariaressa.bsky.social

Her fight against corruption and disinformation in the Philippines speaks directly to what we face in the U.S. today. A must-read on combating online misinformation.

PVUSD counselors, you’re being gaslit. The superintendent’s responses aren’t honest. And if she truly doesn’t know how many students are enrolled just a week after registration, that’s a serious problem.

You say I need to grow up,
I say you need to sit down.

I’m staying focused on what matters:
• Fighting for students
• Calling out injustice
• And holding power accountable

We need school boards where Black and Brown voices are not pathologized for speaking up. Calling out injustice is not a mental health crisis.

If you’ve ever been told to calm down, sit back, or get help just for telling the truth, you’re not alone. And you’re not the problem.

Emails like this are meant to wear you down.

To make you question yourself.

To force you to act “respectable” while your community is being disrespected daily.

I won’t play that game.
trusteemedina.bsky.social
Let’s be clear:
This is gaslighting.

And it’s part of a broader pattern used against people of color who speak out, especially when we challenge racism, policing, or systems of power.
trusteemedina.bsky.social
The phrase “your concerned fellow board member” is condescending and calculated. It’s tone policing, a way to dismiss passionate advocacy by framing it as irrational or unstable.
trusteemedina.bsky.social
Telling someone to “seek professional help” is a stigmatizing jab, especially toward someone like me who lives with ADHD.

It’s not about care. It’s about silencing and shaming.
trusteemedina.bsky.social
This is not concern.
It’s a personal attack disguised as professionalism.

A textbook ad hominem—targeting me instead of engaging with the real issues I’ve raised.

Trustee Misty Navarro just sent me this email:

Let’s break this down.

It’s an honor to know the local Republican Party and White Supremacist see me as a “threat” (their word).

They understand what happens when Greens and Independents start winning—people wake up, they start losing power, and their influence in our community is exposed.

Saying you oppose ICE, but then vote yes to police Black and Brown students on campus, is a contradiction. You can’t claim to protect our communities while supporting systems that target them.

La Superintendente de PVUSD, Contreras, la Presidenta Flores y la Vicepresidenta Navarro rechazaron mi resolución para condenar a ICE. Eso te dice todo lo que necesitas saber sobre este liderazgo.

PVUSD Superintendent Contreras, President Flores and VP Navarro rejected my resolution on condemning ICE. That should tell you all you need to know about what this leadership.

Congrats to @zohrankmamdani.bsky.social on a historic win against establishment democrats.

This is a huge generational win not only for NY but immigrants across the USA! ¡Felicidades amigo!
trusteemedina.bsky.social
It’s June, and the resolution I first proposed in January to condemn ICE raids still hasn’t made the agenda. This failure to act in a moment of fear for our community speaks volumes.

I’m calling on Board President Flores to step down—our students and community deserve better leadership.

¡Feliz de compartir que Pajaro Middle School por fin tendrá un subdirector que hable español!

Es un gran paso para mejorar la comunicación con nuestras familias y para honrar el idioma de nuestra comunidad. 🙌🏽
trusteemedina.bsky.social
Mi gente, I’ve been informed that Pajaro Middle School will finally be getting a Spanish-speaking Assistant Principal!

This is a big step toward better communication with our families and honoring the language of our comunidad. 🙌🏽

It’ll be something to see Educational Leaders & Elected Officials who opposed ethnic studies now standing alongside our immigrant familia at No Kings Day. Public support is important—but so is accountability.

Performative gestures without action deserve to be named.

The level of disrespect shown by PVUSD board leadership toward Black women is shameful and deeply upsetting. I was so enraged by what I witnessed that I had to step out of the room just to collect myself.
