#UWJ201 #312 - I think there are circumstances where it can be helpful. For instance, if you're unsure if your insurance covers a procedure, a built-in AI tool from hospitals may let you punch your info in and either give you an answer or tell you steps for how to figure it out through other means.

#UWJ201 #312 Howdy! I think advertisers use nostalgia all the time, and in a variety of ways. One way is to get a bunch of old celebrities and have them do the things they're known for in an older era. The Seal commercial during the Super Bowl is an example.

#UWJ201 #312 | I think there are pros and cons to each style. While the long responses for the 60s are difficult to pay attention to, I doubt a president would give an interview like that in today's news climate. I prefer today's analysis because it makes it easier to understand the subject matter.

#UWJ201 #312 | Howdy! One reason touched on in the Baughman reading was the revocation of the Fairness Doctrine. This forced broadcast media to portray both sides of an issue equally. When it was struck down, partisan media began to take off for radio, cable news, and now social media.

#UWJ201 #312 | Howdy! This is a great question that more people should be asking. You could say this conditioning is common in other forms of mass comm--specific scenes in movies are shot to make us feel certain ways, for example. However, it's just like you said: should ads be able to partake?

#UWJ201 #312 | Howdy! The recommendations were quite voluminous and look difficult to completely follow. However, I think the best thing for a journalist to do is be consistent. News is most closely followed when it's trusted, and the most damage is done when a trusted news source gets it wrong.

#UWJ201 #312 | Howdy! I really do think that MWS does more harm than good because it obstructs social interaction. Groups are polarized and stigmatized because of a lack of communication between the powerful and weak. It also can propogate housing segregation and crime rates re: "bad neighborhoods."

#UWJ201 #312 | Howdy Austin! It looks like we've got similar questions, which is a boon for me because I get to share how I feel about it. In all honesty, it depends on the extent to which they track information and regulate content. If they get the conditions right, I'm not opposed.

#UWJ201 #312 Hi Anna! I've always thought that's kind of by design. We see key buzzwords like "personalization" and the word "cookie" seems benign, but it's not in tracking companies' best interests for us to recognize cookies as data trackers. After all, then we're less likely to allow them.

#UWJ201 #312 Hi Taylor! I think you're exactly right that there's a shortage of space on the front page and that some alarms get more coverage, perhaps undeservingly. For the NYT, he'll bring readers and create engagement as the most publicized American & POTUS. He's a boon for this sort of thing.

#UWJ201 #312 Hi Karlee! I think that with partisan sources, agenda setting still occurs--it's just determined by sources that are authoritative for that party. Choosing news sources is like picking your poison. Because I trust traditional outlets more, I think we're better off without the tradeoff.

#UWJ201 #312 - Howdy! Forgive my cynicism here, but I think promoting these causes is in large part meant to attract audiences who support those causes. Donating money is one way to indicate support and advance the cause, but it loses some meaning if people don't know about it.

#UWJ201 #312 Hello! I'm uninformed on the subject, but it would be quite surprising if Tiktok had the trust of so many Americans. Although it's an apples to oranges comparison considering Tiktok's entertainment purposes, it would be a strong indictment of modern news reporting if it were the case.

#UWJ201 #312 Howdy! I think that balance will depend on the type of news outlet because different types have different goals. One way for cable news (which seeks viewership) is to write clear synopses of candidate platforms on their website while devoting slightly less time to horse race coverage.

#UWJ201 #312 This is the second time I forgot the identifier this week. I'll have to do better next week :)

Hi Paige! This is a good research question. My immediate thoughts are that this is likely. Similar to microtargeting, we have contextual evidence that tells us the nature and volume of a group's consumption habits, helping us make inferences of the stress an average individual feels from consuming.
