The State Board of Education has begun working on required book lists and plans to finalize them next year.
The process comes at a time of increased efforts by conservative Republicans, who dominate the State Board of Education, to impose their own ideology on curriculum and instructional materials.

This December, we celebrate Human Rights Month and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Article 26 of the declaration recognizes that everyone has the right to education to promote understanding and tolerance.

Education Commissioner Mike Morath equated experience-based teacher pay with socialism to the State Board of Education.

TSTA disagrees. Seniority-based pay rewards educators for their years of service providing quality teaching to our students. We will keep fighting for more pay for all teachers.

The Trump administration announced last week it would continue dismantling the Department of Education, even though it can be abolished only by Congress.

Without this funding, fewer Texas students will get enough to eat, attend college and receive an equal and high-quality education.

The Trump Administration has just decided that highly trained, licensed and essential workers, don't qualify as "professional" enough to receive federal loans.

Removing that status means that students are deterred from entering in-demand fields, enrollment falls and workforce shortages worsen.
