'Prayer Stone’ • Inis Mór

This small stone was found at Temple Breccan on Inis Mór. The stone bears an Irish inscription:

OR[ÓlT] AR BRAN N AILITHER

'Pray for Bran the Pilgrim'.

It is likely to date to c.8-10th century. You can see it on display in the National Museum of Ireland.

Labbacallee • Cork

Labbacallee is Ireland’s largest example of a wedge tomb.

The name Labbacallee derives from Leaba Chaillí, which can be roughly translated to ‘The Hag’s Bed’.

Archaeologists discovered the remains of an adult woman, a man, and a child. All dating between 2456–1776 BC.

The Bishop's Stone • Fermanagh

This unusual stone sculpture was first recorded by Dorothy Lowry Corry in the graveyard at Killadeas in the 1930s.

He holds a crozier and bell, indicating his status as a bishop or abbot.

It is thought to date to some time around the 8th - 10th century AD.

Standing Stone • Bronze Age • Waterford

The stone stands sentinel overlooking the Nire Valley, as it has for thousands of years.

And as it hopefully will continue to stand for thousands more years still to come.

This beautifully situated castle was built in 1618 in the Scottish style for Malcolm Hamilton.

It is one of the finest Plantation-era castles in Ulster. Part of the consolidation of English & Scottish settler power following the Nine Years War

This ancient tomb also features in the legend of the Second Battle of Moytura. This is where Nuada of the Silver Arm was buried after he was slain by Balor of the Evil Eye.

With such a powerful presence, it's no wonder that such stories have grown up around this magnificent monument.
