I agree that this is a perfectly reasonable way to do this with the context of a game developer, but you'll just have to leave it up to fate that the average consumer will also subscribe to such a charitable interpretation. Knowing your audience is important.

As a composer, I can only imagine how tacky it'd be if I released a piece of music that was not the most refined version I could have possibly made it.

People do not respect art that's released with poor confidence in its own craftsmanship.

I prefer the traditional release model of simply providing the final, thoroughly ironed out and refined version of the game upfront for one flat payment.

Hmmm.... I haven't done jazz noir in quite a while (more focused on digital jazz fusion, bullet hell music, etc.), but this definitely interests me. I'll update my portfolio and send it in. Beautiful project concept, by the way, I'll definitely be keeping an eye it!

Might open for commissions soon as well, but I hesitate to do this because of how high I'd need to make my rates in order to compensate my time fairly.

Love your work in this game! Lots of iconic designs brought to life.

Hey man, excellent work! Unrelated question -- did you do any of the music for Supervive besides the collab with Brendon Williams on the intro animation? Your range of expertise is inspiring.

You can follow your hopes and dreams, sure, maybe you should -- but you shouldn't expect to get paid for it. It's simple math that most people MUST fail and you can't beat it with determination, platitudes and elbow grease, it's irrefutable reality.

Moreover, we also need to just frankly flat-out accept that failure is inevitable. It's guaranteed. That's what the entertainment industry is: Guaranteed failure, because there are FAR more people attempting to make money than there is money willing to be spent in this industry.
