It is true that New York had a religious exemption for student vaccines before 2019. But the reason lawmakers abolished that exemption was because parents began abusing it at an unprecedented scale and allegedly spurred a horrific measles epidemic. www.supremecourt.gov/DocketPDF/25...

SCOTUS' LGBTQ books decision destabilized secular, public education by effectively giving religious parents a veto over curricula they dislike.

I agree with @mtsw.bsky.social that this case could further harm public schools by making them unsafe for many children. The goal here is pretty clear.

American democracy is under siege, yet Editorial Boards are silent on the remedy of impeachment (and calls for resignation).

The Founders would be appalled at such timidity.

The Publisher of the Sentinel shared insights into his outlets process and rationale.

It was that glimmer of a reminder of the activist that became the politician, forgoing the spox talking points and the being shuffled here and there to smile and nod. An outlier talking to an outlier.

Not only did this question come after the question after the last question after the very last question, but the gaggle had started getting up and packing up when Mamdani said to me, “I’ll answer your question.” Away from the podium, his talking points closed shut in his memo folder.

His comment, an assertion that the actions taken by New Yorkers last Saturday to stop ICE was an exercise in free speech, is both extremely simple (it *was* a protest) and radical (people were *also* throwing planters and trash cans at ICE).

And it was a comment clearly waiting to be asked for.

Those progressive pols got swarmed with pretty severe hate for applauding the actions of New Yorkers (Hanif called it “heroic”) because their comments were reinterpreted to mean they approved of hurting cops, who were thrust in the middle to do crowd control.

Mamdani had commented via spox that ICE raids are inhumane, but made no mention of his thoughts on how New Yorkers reacted.

This was a bit of a void, as progressive pols Brad Lander, Shahana Hanif, Sandy Nurse, & the Public Advocate lauded Saturday’s demo in a press conference the next day.
