Yes! Mass-market paperbacks are often printed on cheaper paper in a smaller size than trade paperbacks. They're also sold outside of bookstores, places like supermarkets, airports, drugstores, newstands, etc.

The “cheap” format was what got me into genre fiction and comics (books and strips). I was at the right time where they were cheap and accessible—and often seen as disposable so often free and passed around.
