Just a guy working to make this a better world. Nonprofit rants. Urbanism. Marvel Comics. Nerdery. 🏳️‍🌈 (he/him)

My words and thoughts. Not affiliated with anywhere I might be working/volunteering at the time.
It definitely didn't work on my commute this morning. But I think it's working now because I got 4 emails from Clipper saying I added new cards to my account, even though I did nothing but log in.

Like, the system of care I have access to is already what he's saying I won't want.

The change is: if it's the government in charge of it, I know I can actually advocate for change within it.

Right now, my premiums go up, the quality of care lowers, and I just have to suck it up.

I already have to see my pcp before a specialist. Already my treatment options are limited by my insurance. Already rich people have access to treatments I will never have. Already my nurse friends get paid only what the health systems determine they're willing to pay despite huge CEO payouts

State Democrats should be on every local news station talking about how ridiculous this is and how important it is that the state not just holds strong, and that party leaders are donating to local nonprofits in preparation for the President's abject cruelty to pressure them to fall in line.

Democrats should be on every channel 24/7 talking about how FUCKING INSANE this is. That the President of the Fucking United States is throwing a tantrum that if he doesn't get his way, he wants to throw an entire state to collapse.

According to what I've read, if you can log on (which took me a bunch of tries with screens like this), your card is prioritized to be upgraded in the next batch, and you should be fine tomorrow.

I did it this morning, so fingers crossed.

All this to say, we're better than the billionaires. And you can make a huge difference to causes you care about by donating. And 5% is pretty damn easy. Do it and help your community. You'll feel good and connected in ways you didn't think possible.

But, YOU can prove you're better than a billionaire by donating to nonprofits in your community. I just made 3 donations to local nonprofits. Not a lot. But it ended up being 5% of my wealth.

This is also a large part of the whole "the agreement" bullshit that the All In guys say is their excuse for their rightward turn. That they can extract wealth until they decide they're done and then disburse it as they want and get patted on the back for their charity.

We could change the DAF rules and make a HUGE difference to better American life by making wealthy people who say they're taking a tax deduction to benefit the world, actually do so.

If it's maintenance-related, why continue to do that specific type of work on Sunday night/Monday morning when doing so Friday/Saturday or Saturday/Sunday would impact fewer riders and make less of a local news splash?
