Current solution I'm going with: Parallel Compression with a LA-2A to give some more body.

How does one process dialogue without having 3 compressors on a track?

I looked at this video and thought, "What if I panned the audio?" and then I made this for fun.

Man I love Rib's version of Play. I specifically want to focus on the use of delays here because my god was the delays in this song interesting.

I come up with one good lyric for a song and now I want to cover an entire song. I have so many songs to work on.

Mixing a very dynamic vocal right now, and I have to figure out how to process it without causing the compressor to pump and absolutely kill it.

1. Either I ride the vocals better with gain automation
2. Grab 4 compressors instead of 2
3. Parallel the hell out of it

My audio interface broke and was thinking whether to get an SSL or an Audient. I went with SSL because it was 50 dollars off, but I'm really curious on how good those SSL Preamps are? Low noise floor, 32 bit recording, and two headphone outputs at the cost of round trip latency.

So I just got introduced to pre-fader/pre-effects sends and I have so many idea of how it use it.
1. To send them all to different compressors to mix the dry and wet pre send to blend them all into one balanced vocal.
2. To have the wet reverb be independent from the dry vocal

UNDER 10 MINUTES WOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

OK! SO... PANNING REVERB IS SO GOOD!!! It adds dimension to the reverb outside of width. It adds MOVEMENT! Like no you shouldn't pan every reverb, but like if you need movement in your vocal mixes. DEFINITELY PAN YOUR REVERB AND SEE IF THAT MAKES IT INTERESTING!

So I've been using multiple parallel compressors and saturators and blending it in with my main vocal to shape the tone. I don't think this is Brauerizing, but it is a funny technique to add more controlled Sparkle and Warmth. New experiment, might use again.

I'm not going to lie, I think I'm abusing tape saturation a bit too much. On a single vocal I have like 2-3 tape saturations that the vocals go through. I mean it sounds good to me, but I really got to start using Tubes, Exciters, and transistors more often.

What creates an ethereal vocal? A vocal tone? The way it is mixed? Because songs like Jishou Mushoku from N25 has me transported to another plane of existence. I want to sound ethereal as well, it would be so cool for my vocals to send someone to a different plane of existence.

Ok... I think I figured out how to get a warmer wider vocal.
Vocal Send -> Doubler -> Wider -> Devil loc Saturation -> EQ everything past 800hz
Then blend it in.
Yes... THIS MUST BE IT RIGHT?
September 3, 2025 at 9:05 PM
I'm thinking about the Brauerizing method where you blend in different compressors together to shape a vocal. It would be fun to do for a project, but man I still have to figure out my current workflow that I copied from Jesse Ray Ernster from my last revision.

Ok, I watched a Devon video in order to learn how to unharsh the harsh vocals and two things came up:
1. EQ out the frequencies that hurt your ears
2. Use a De-esser and dynamically bring the harshness down

I'm using the EQ currently, I got to try out this De-esser trick.

I feel like my mixing hurdles go out like this:
Level 1: Raw vocals Correction
Level 2: How much compression?
Level 3: What's the tone of the vocal?
Level 4: How should the BG sound?
Level 5: What FX do I want blended in?
Level 6: Funny shit (Automation)
Level 7: Mastering

Sometimes I’ll revisit an old project and think, “How the hell did I mix this?”
and then I open the session and go, “Why the hell did I do that?”
followed by, “What the hell was I even thinking?”
I can only conclude it was "Good vibes and a prayers"

What if I broke the vocals into 4 parts, Low, Low mids, mids, and Air and I just treat each section individually and blend it all together? This is super experimental to me and I'm probably only going to use it a couple of time due to how impractical this sounds, but I need this vocal to sound good.

I remember a technique I learned from @fihsiyu.bsky.social about how to handle harmonies and it's to make them wider and toss them into a reverb and that honestly blew away all my overthinking.

Here is a comparison of the before and after of my WIP of Eun's kimi no kami. I'm really experimenting with reverb and stereo imagining here to create an atmosphere.

I'm realizing I'm lacking in the EQ and Compression department so I'm going to go on a training arc using SoundGym to see if that will make me a better mixer.

One day, I want to mix like Miy_yuu, where he makes all the vocals in his arrangement act like instruments to create this vibrant sonic landscape that is so intricate, I swear I’ve listened to a song a hundred times and still find a new vocal layer I hadn’t heard before.

The Sony MDR-7506... I have underestimated what these headphones can do, because I was listening to some of my vocal mixes on these and god there are some issues in my past mixes that I can hear now with such accuracy. FEAR ME HAHHAHAHAHA
