I also had 2 coats on my test piece but I probably thinned them a little bit more but my test piece also felt less spongy....
I had a lot of fuckups yesterday, at one time the wood was so wet the wood glue got loose and parts fell off 🙃

it looked good but I thought it could need a bit more....
so the second coat (thinned again) and it looked fine while it was wet but when it dried it practically de saturated every bit of color that was there. 😑

Vallejo's Wood color set comes with an dark gray acrylic wash.
You basically paint it very oversaturated and then apply the gray wash.
But maybe because it's acrylic or because wood is still a sponge after 2 layers of primer, it behaved differently then enamel or oil wash...
