I haven’t posted any #pinball scores recently but this was the closest I’ve ever been to Cygnus. A few shots off of my last Time Machine multiball and all others were already done. I locked a far cry ball, plunged another, and the locked ball got ejected early without being in MB.

I wish we could’ve redone the decals before this weekend, considering it’s the first time we’ve traveled for pinball.

(Also if you see us wearing these, feel free to say hi and you can also get one of my famous “pinball hot takes(tm)”)

Here’s what I wrote before I went back and redid my head sprite. I also just noticed it has ANOTHER typo I missed so sorry Toby I guess.

While technically all my ‘mates have their own birthdays, today is mine and this the body’s birthday and so I made a little gift for us (with some help)!

I’m about to end someone’s whole career

Tiger & Dragon: not a play and win, brought by a friend. Trick taking with mahjong tiles as the medium / aesthetic. The first player won almost every round, which is an interesting statistic. Felt very standard outside of using tiles.

Portmanteau: 30% of my humor is portmanteaus so I wanted to like it. The only rounds that were hard were when the pictures were vague or had synonyms. Using a set number of letters was an interesting challenge at first but only felt meaningful for the 3 and 4 letter rounds.

Aeterna: did not enjoy this. It felt like an engine builder of half-measures. Nothing felt impactful enough to offset costs, and everything had a huge price. The whole unrest mechanic was super punishing and made most decisions feel bad. If you do very bad your score piece disappears!

Nova era: I’m a sucker for mid-lightweight civ games. Another tableau builder with some pretty basic dice drafting and very limited actions. Nothing I haven’t seen before but it was well-crafted and enjoyable. Like a decent burger.

Archeologic: I played this with Jamey Stegmaier :^). I won. Very cool deduction puzzle that wasn’t super interactive. I felt like I couldn’t get much info from anyone else’s guesses, but maybe it’s unfamiliarity. Felt like a paper puzzle, which probably helped me.

Caution signs: another party game subgenre is A+B prompts. The 20 second limit felt short but people really didn’t have any problems getting things right. It was only hard when there were unfortunate crossovers, like “muscular” and “strong” in the same round.

Top tier: how to make a party game - 1) take a popular Internet conversation starter 2) put it on cards with minimal graphic design.
Were this made 7-12 years ago the people you rank would be just cards. Dry erase cards are a recent but very good addition to the genre. Otherwise it’s just tiermaker.
