Do your own research on Librela. It is a Godsend for some, while others claim it led to serious side effects that did not go away.

Definitely no harm in trying it. Pentosan helps rebuild cartilage and improve joint lubrication; Adequan promotes cartilage repair and reduces inflammation; hyaluronic acid is for advanced pain relief and swelling control. if I recall, HA needs to be injected into the bloodstream.

Finally, whatever you do, research "Librela" if that drug is offered. LOTS of anecdotal information out there about dreadful results.

I assume you are already using edible joint supplements that contain chondroitin sulfate, glucosamine, etc. Have you tried the oral meds, which are generally better for pain. With oral NSAIDs, I'm sure your vet will add yearly liver/kidney function tests.

Although the injectables are supposed to be administered in the muscle, you can give the shots subcutaneously---it just takes some extra hours for the body to absorb. SubQ was always easier for me with dogs.

I have used Adequan for horses and dogs. I have also used injectable Pentosan as well as the oral medications firocoxib and carprofen. The injectables help some animals but not others. Adequan does not have any pain killers in it, so consider that factor, as it isn't inexpensive.
