Mergesort’s Twitter Archive
@twitter.mergesort.social
Here lies a mostly complete Twitter archive of @mergesort's tweets. You're probably looking for @mergesort.me for all of my sweet, sweet, skeets.
Sorry, one last tweet before I go. This is the worst intentional user experience of all time. Someone links you to their profile, you click follow, and then Mastodon tells you to open your server, copy and paste the link into a search box, and then click follow there.

My new conspiracy theory is that Twitter is preventing people from questioning the company’s authority by censoring the word sheeple.

I mean ya gotta watch the World Cup with people if you’re in Argentina, right?

As much as I love Mickey D’s I’m not gonna have it when the largest rib in history is an option.

You gotta love how hard Argentina goes for the World Cup. And no, I didn’t have McDonald’s in the land of unlimited empanadas, beef, and weird pizza.

Fun Twitter office story, they used to have 8 foot tall kiosks that displayed tweets. Most people didn’t realize they were touch screen Android tablets running a giant version of the app so I used to walk around the NYC office changing them to show pictures of @jckarter’s dogs.

When in Argentina do as the Argentinian’s do, their pizza is something else. It was fantastic, but a loooooot, I’ve never taken two lactose pills for any meal before but…

I spent a few hours this weekend playing with Live Activities and added a feature to Jolene that lets us pin important reminders to the lock screen. I love it, Colleen can create a todo and it shows up on my lock screen, every todo app needs to let me pin todos to my lock screen.

I’ve been getting a ton of these group DM scams since the layoffs. It’s almost like firing all the content moderators is good for bots. 🤔🤔🤔

Very creepy icon choice for a form where I’m giving someone my social security number.

Related to this, for the people who asked Plinky now has the option to open web links in Safari rather than in SafariViewController.

@Twitter I don’t have any drafts to post but I do have this clip from the former head of product at Twitter in my personal archives. Everyone who’s worked with me has seen it because I would selectively deploy it to win arguments all the time. 😎

I really appreciate how pattern matching in Swift allows you to create tuples from two booleans to match on. It’s nice to have the benefit of exhaustive cases, and the pattern lends itself to documenting why you’re handling different app state conditions the way you are.

This post by @danluu reminds me a lot of renting vs. buying. If you can afford to buy a house you should, rather than throwing your money away every month. Most startups are capital constrained while big tech can afford to accrue value from investments. https://danluu.com/in-house/

I’ve been lucky enough to receive many nice DMs on Twitter, but this is may possibly be the best one yet. 🥰🥰🥰

It’s now legal for red pandas to vote. #IVoted

I’ve been getting into Spelling Bee since Colleen started working on The NY Times and I’d like to report a bug.

Looks like I’m back on the SwiftUI Previews bandwagon. They seem a lot more stable in Xcode 14.1, and I have to say are pretty game changing for iterating on designs in real time.

Is there a way to turn off the Music app’s live activity? I can’t find anything in Music’s Settings, unlike every other app.

My obscure superpower is finding weird bugs in software. Third one today, who thought a professional category named “Software developer/Programmer/Software engineer” was a good idea? (Also good luck staying sane while localizing that.)

Carved the scariest thing we could think of into a pumpkin, an implicitly unwrapped BOOlean! (And by we I mean @palleas did basically all the work while I shouted ideas at him and scrolled Twitter.)
