I use the word “stupidity” in the sense that Voegelin used it in his 1960s lectures on Hitler and the Germans.

We are focused on the immediate dangers, believe me. But one of them is the apparently impenetrable stupidity of too many of your countrymen. The rest of the world is losing patience.

Unidentified agents arrest people off the street or from their homes, move them to prisons hundreds of miles away w/out notifying family members, and hold them w/out charge in violation of habeas corpus. Let’s call it what it is. This is Nazi-like behaviour.
