This. My kids best friend from preschool was pushed into elite travel teams for soccer by 6 and is a social black hole at this point. Went from a fun loving little kid to a soccer zombie. Development track youth sports are bad.

Used to have to spend 5 weeks a year in NYC when our kid was 0-5yrs. NYC was such a pleasure to be in with a small kid. Full playgrounds everywhere, bodegas for quick snacks, and easy transportation. A parenting dream.

At 3 a little odd. My daughter used to get invited to boys parties in kindergarten because the moms kept think she was a boy based on her name. Same thing happened to a friend of hers in class.

People are also unaware of button protocol - if there is a child under 5, ask them to press the button for you. It makes kids so happy and it’s so easy to do.

Learned that peppermint candy umpqua is good from your feed. Family was skeptical. I was worried the candy would be an odd texture, but nope. It just an amazing combo of crunchy and chewy.

And it’s easier for the normies to compete academically with the weird smart kids out of class. But it lessens both groups. The smarties need to learn how to interact with normies, and the normies need the academic challenge of the smarties. Shrinking both worlds is bad.

I was put in a year early and same. Private schools 'might' have better academic learning, but public schools are untouchable when it comes to social learning. Gotta consider both.

At Huntington gardens last year I overheard a cal tech prof bragging to an out of town friend about how his 3 year old prompts ChatGPT to create stories for it. Great opportunity to talk to our 10 year old about why that was terrible.

Your kid went MIT? That’s cool. My kid slept 13-14 hours a night, uninterrupted until she was 5. She was the goddamn valedictorian of sleeping.

We were hanging outside at a bar in north Portland a few years ago and group of clowns came biking down the street. They hopped off and headed into grab drinks. It was surreal. Turned out it was a bachelorette party for a clothing designer my wife had worked with 12 years ago. Love this town.

Abortions save lives. If my wife hadn't had quick and easy access to an abortion, we may not have ever had a kid. She had a miscarriage at 8 weeks and was bleeding profusely. Planed Parenthood took her in and gave her a d&c within 20 minutes. Without that who knows.
