Amazon says the feature is off by default and users must opt in but that doesn’t mean it isn’t scanning and storing your face. Just that it isn’t providing that to the owner.
How does the new facial identification feature work? Amazon calls this new Ring doorbell feature "Familiar Faces." It uses Al-powered facial recognition to scan and identify the faces of anyone who comes into view of a compatible Ring camera. Intended as a convenience feature, Familiar Faces lets Ring doorbell owners "tag" specific people, such as friends, family members and other known visitors. This then allows the doorbell to send a unique notification when a familiar person is identified. To accomplish this, Ring doorbells will scan and store a biometric "face print" for frequent visitors. Each new facial scan is then compared against the stored database of saved faces. When Familiar Faces is active, this process will happen with every person who steps within scanning distance of a Ring camera.

The message gives the impression that only paid X users can edit or create images using Grok. That message is reinforced in the many headlines circulating right now stating that XAI, another Musk company that makes Grok, has restricted Grok's image editing abilities to this select group of users. But that impression is false. All X users — including free ones — can still use Grok to edit and create images, including the sexually suggestive deepfakes that landed Grok in hot water to begin with. Interacting with Grok through replies on X is just one of several ways to use the Al chatbot. For example, the "Edit image" button still invokes Grok on every image displayed on X's desktop website, and that same button can be accessed on the X app by long-pressing on any image. Grok can also be accessed through a standalone website or app, as well as via a highly promoted tab in the X apps and X website. These remain readily available to free users, and require no additional effort compared to the @grok command. The Verge tested the Grok website, app, and X tab with free accounts and Grok readily complied with our requests to edit or generate a variety of images, including a full "nudify" and one of Musk wearing a bikini.

I have referred Seth Harp to the DOJ for investigation and to pursue criminal charges regarding the intentional publication of information related to Operation Absolute Resolve, including the doxxing of a U.S. Delta Force operator. That conduct is not protected journalism. It was reckless, dangerous, and put American lives at risk. The First Amendment does not give anyone a license to expose elite military personnel, compromise operations, or assist our adversaries under the guise of reporting. Congress has a constitutional duty to investigate when national security is endangered, and no one is above oversight. It is also well within my constitutional authority to work with the DOJ to ensure that justice is served. I look forward to the results of a very thorough investigation and the potential filing of charges for violations of multiple U.S. codes. I have confirmation that the DOJ has received the letter, and we look forward to their findings.

The land at issue is part of the Lower Rio Grande Valley National Wildlife Refuge, which was established in 1979 to protect native habitat along roughly 75 miles of the Rio Grande. Rather than existing as one continuous park, the refuge links together scattered tracts owned and managed by private landowners, nonprofits, the State of Texas, and neighboring refuges, including Laguna Atascosa and Santa Ana. This patchwork supports rare wildlife such as ocelots and the jaguarundi, and serves as a critical corridor for migratory birds.

Another Doublespeed-operated TikTok account named pattyluvslife posted dozens of slideshows of a young woman who, according to her bio, is a student at UCLA. All the posts from this account talk about how "big pharma" and the supplements industry is a scam. But the posts also always promoted a moringa supplement from a company called Rosabella. The Al-generated woman in these TikTok posts often holds up the bottle of supplements, but it's obviously Al-generated as the text on the bottle is jumbled gibberish.
