When they ditch the idea of scenarios and focus more on quest like gamey mechanics, I think the argument of keeping narrative integrity starts to fall short. If Benjamin Franklin can lead Greek hoplites I should be able to name my city whatever I please.

This is just objectively false lol. Give me a narrative genre and I'll give you a game. It might be indie and not a AAA billion dollar budget title, but in 2025 virtually everything is represented in some form.

The left gatekeeping and trying to "out liberal" each other for social media points eroded a lot of willingness to participate in that, imo. If anything was proven Tuesday, we don't have the numbers to afford the infighting.
