Between 1917-1923 4.5M Russians died during the 1917 Feb & Oct Revolutions and the Russian Civil War. Prior to WWII Stalin liquidated about 1M political opponents including Trotsky & the Soviets sacrificed 20M in the Great Patriotic War 1940-1945. In other words death is no stranger to the Russians.
