Bringing clarity to the relationship between livestock and the environment. Led by Dr. Frank Mitloehner.
What is AMR? 👉 Antimicrobial Resistance.

Antimicrobials can be lifesaving tool to treat bacterial infections in livestock animals, but using too much of an antimicrobial can cause bacteria to develop resistance to the antibiotics that were once meant to eliminate them. 1/

What's research without a team?

Through the California Department of Food and Agriculture's Livestock Enteric Methane Emission Reduction Research Program (LEMER-RP), we're introducing a methane-reducing bolus at the very start of a calf's life to influence emissions across its entire lifetime. 💊 🐂

Episode 7 on CLEAR Conversations out now! 🎙️

In this episode, we explore:

👉 What a ruminant is and how their stomach functions
👉 Methane as a natural byproduct from digestion
👉 How feed additives help reduce enteric methane in dairy cows

Happy World Soil Day! Healthy soil stores carbon, protects against erosion, and keeps farms thriving. Combined with climate-smart livestock practices including genetics, feed additives, optimized feed, and methane-inhibiting boluses for cattle, ag can tackle climate change from the ground up. 🌾🐂

Media training at California Cattlemen’s Association’s 109th Convention happening now! Our Associate Director for Comms on why it's important to do good things & talk about them. "If you're not sharing your story, someone else is going to tell them." Here's the kicker — may not be the most accurate.

It’s been a great start here in Reno at the California Cattlemen's Association’s 109th Annual Convention!

Yesterday, our graduate students interviewed for CCA scholarships and today, the team at UC Davis CLEAR Center is here to talk science, sustainability, and solutions.

Happy Thanksgiving from all of us here at the UC Davis CLEAR Center!

Thank you to our incredible colleagues, hardworking students/interns, and to everyone who plays a role in producing the food we eat. 🧡🦃

Your efforts make a difference every single day, but today we're extra grateful.

Taking center stage at #SUSTAG2025!

Dr. Frank Mitloehner presented on livestock production's impact on climate and offered insights on how producers & supply chains can leverage science & innovation to reduce emissions.

This is how we lead. Grounding every conversation in real data.

Into the field, from the field!

New CLEAR Conversations episode features Troy Rowan, assistant professor at University of Tennessee Institute of Agriculture. Growing up in cattle-breeding family, Troy tackled tall challenge of using genetics to understand & help reduce livestock emissions.

DYK Denmark has 30 million pigs and only 5 million people? 🐖

It may be a small country but its agrifood system isn’t. Most of its agricultural land grows feed for livestock which gives a clear look at how intensive livestock systems operate and why context matters in sustainability conversations.

We have eight bovine bubbles at UC Davis that are used to conduct large-scale studies on group-housed cattle.

They're equipped with smart scales & smart feeds that track individual feed intake & weight of animals part of our early-life intervention study. 🐂
