Rationing Tesco Value coffee is not a lifestyle choice it’s the result of poverty pay.

Why are FE teachers on strike?

As Ian Dale pointed out on LBC, FE lecturers’ starting pay is barely above minimum wage.

Minimum wage ≈ £26,400.
FE starting pay in England? Not £30k.

That’s why staff are striking across England today.

More pay for FE. Less work for FE.
📣 Bournemouth & Poole College staff out in force today.

Further education keeps communities going but staff are stretched, underpaid and undervalued.
This is what solidarity looks like. ✊

College leaders, come to the table.

Tomorrow, they take strike action.

✊ Stand with FE staff.

You don’t fix the skills crisis while underpaying FE staff.

Helen Hayes MP challenged the PM on pay parity asking how colleges can attract industry experts without proper pay.
December 17, 2025 at 4:06 PM
Another way FE colleges are held back - an unjust tax rule.

Unlike other post-16 providers, FE colleges cannot reclaim VAT. Helen Hayes MP challenged the Prime Minister on this.

If the government is serious about skills, Treasury must fix this.

Reform UK talks big on apprenticeships but you can’t build skills for the future on poverty pay.

College lecturers are the lowest-paid teachers in the UK. This must change.

“15,000 university jobs are up for the chop.

This is a national crisis in higher education and it is being allowed to happen.”

Edinburgh: 350 jobs at risk, alongside pay freezes and reduced hours.

Strathclyde: 70 job cuts announced.

These issues were raised during First Minister’s Questions in the Scottish Parliament, as university staff face deep uncertainty heading into Christmas.

265 more redundancies on the table.
40 already gone.
Over 300 people facing chaos caused by management’s decisions.

Show your support, send solidarity, share their stories, and back the strike. ✊
