Novelvember Day 10: The Troop by Nick Cutter. Some may say this is Lord of the Flies with body horror. It is, but it resonated with me as a former scout; a lot of the bullying and conversations in this book are painfully familiar. Creepy and disturbing.

Novelvember Day 9: My Best Friend's Exorcism by Grady Hendrix. I absolutely LOVED this book. Reminded me a lot of the books by R.L. Stine that I read when I was younger. An interesting take on Exorcism horror.

Novelvember Day 8: The Uncensored Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde. The superior version of the story. All killer, no filler.

Day 7: The Refrigerator Monologues by Catherynne M. Valente. An interesting take on the doomed love interests in super hero comics, told by said love interests. Funny, depressing, disturbing, with a punk rock middle finger to the world edge that I loved.

Day 6: Blood Slaves by Markus Redmond. An awesome and cathartic debut novel about slavery, vampirism, and revenge. If you like your Gothic horror with a touch of Mortal Kombat, this is a must-read.

Day 5: V for Vendetta by Alan Moore, with art by David Lloyd. What can I say, it's November 5th. A work with political commentary that has unfortunately aged like fine wine.

Day 4: Annihilation by Jeff VanderMeer. A really cool sci fi concept that left me feeling uncomfortable in the best way possible.

Novelvember Day 3: War and Peace by Leo Tolstoy. One hell of an undertaking, but it was worth reading. This is the type of novel that you take your time with, like nursing a fine wine.

Playing catch up with this thing I decided to do this morning. Day 2: In the Lonely Hours by Shannon Morgan. Ghosts, castles, and Samhain, oh my! Heartwrenching and creepy, I absolutely love this.

Starting yet another themed month, this time Novelvember, where I recommend novels I enjoyed. Day 1: Smothermoss by Alisa Alering. Dark Magical Realism in Appalachia. Yes, please.

A little late, but...Day 31: Tucker & Dale vs. Evil. Hilarious horror comedy that parodies the genre in a way that shows a lot of love and passion.

Day 30: The Crow. What's a Devil's Night without a screening of this film? Brandon Lee is fantastic (RIP), the soundtrack is perfect, and the cinematography and set design perfectly capture a Gothic atmosphere.

Day 29: Don't Look Now. Donald Pleasance and Julie Christie are great in this. The score is also very good. If you're looking for a good, suspenseful psychic horror, check this one out.

Finally caught up! Day 27: The Shrouds. Weird recc, because did not like this film when I first saw it. Recently, I watched it again, and talk about a complete 180. I highly recommend this one as a good dramatic body horror about grief and AI tech.

Day 25: Tenebre. My favorite of Dario Argento's. Killer soundtrack and cool kills make this Giallo an interesting, if bizarre, watch.

Day 24: Hellraiser. I absolutely love this movie. The pace is absolutely perfect, and the story and direction are fantastic. This film helped me fall in love with the works of Clive Barker.

Day 22: The Hollow. This is a huge guilty pleasure. It's not great, but it has a surprising amount of heart, and does capture the feeling of the spooky season as a preteen/teenager in the 2000s.

Day 21: Friday the 13th Part VI: Jason Lives. While I love pretty much every installment of this franchise, warts and all, this one is easily my favorite. Zany horror antics, a great story, and a kickass soundtrack make this one a must-watch.

Day 18: Jaws. One I've seen bits and pieces of, but finally watched in full this year after reading the book. Scary, funny, and thrilling. There's a reason why it's held in such high esteem.

Day 17: The Changeling. A creepy haunted house movie that is an effective story of loss and betrayal. All of it is held together by great atmosphere, effective cinematography, and a strong lead performance from George C. Scott
