Yesterday, we signed a landmark Surveillance Data Sharing Agreement with Italy’s Istituto Superiore di Sanità.

This technical accord enables secure exchange of anonymised data including on pathogen genomics, antimicrobial resistance, vaccine-preventable diseases & One Health.

Although we have discovered eggs of Aedes mosquitoes recently, there is no evidence of established populations in the UK and we are unlikely to see them for the moment.

If you’re eligible it is because you are at greater risk of getting seriously ill and ending up in hospital. Book online on the NHS App or National Booking System; or speak to your GP or practice nurse, or alternatively your local pharmacist. For pregnant women, the vaccine may also be available through maternity services'

We’re also seeing flu and COVID-19 slowly begin to rise. Now’s the time to book your flu and COVID-19 vaccines before the expected seasonal spread of these viruses. Consultant epidemiologist Jamie Lopez Bernal, who leads on the report, shared these insights. 💬

Flu and COVID-19 levels are starting to slowly increase.

While this is to be expected at this time of year, now is the time for people to come forward for their winter vaccines if they’re eligible, before we start to see more of these viruses in circulation in the winter months.

Noticing lots of cold symptoms and cases of the sniffles? 🤧 We're seeing a sharp increase in rhinovirus, which causes the common cold, as shown in our latest weekly data. This isn't unexpected for this time of year when kids go back to school and mixing increases.

Our CEO, Professor Susan Hopkins, attended the opening yesterday. Here’s what she said about this new cutting-edge research centre. 🔽💬

Professor Susan Hopkins, CEO, UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) said:

The opening of this impressive state of the art facility in Harwell, alongside Moderna’s substantial investment in UK research and development, will help ensure the NHS has rapid access to mRNA vaccines if needed in a future pandemic. It will also open doors to new vaccine products, helping support the government’s 10 Year Health Plan and the focus on prevention.

I’m delighted that UKHSA leads the partnership on behalf of government. It is an exemplar on how we and government can work closely with industry to prepare and respond to emerging health threats. It will support the UK’s ambitions towards the 100 Days Mission, helping put the UK at the forefront of pandemic preparedness and new technologies whilst driving economic growth.
