THIS IS THE CROWD THAT HAS KEPT TRUMP OUT OF LONDON
Crowd at Parliament square Crowd at Parliament square

Amna rounds us off: the two mainstream parties have failed.

People want alternatives. Let’s offer them hope and offer a different narrative.
ukstoptrump.bsky.social
@maybulman.bsky.social comes in: we need journalists working together to do impactful, deep reporting.

And then these stories must get out to the people we need to reach, even through influencers and new message carriers.
ukstoptrump.bsky.social
As a movement, we are down, but we must strategise and set our own agenda says @minnierahman.bsky.social
ukstoptrump.bsky.social
@minnierahman.bsky.social of @praxisprojects.bsky.social says we must share resources; money, knowledge, expertise and so on.

We must reach out to international partners and learn from them.

We must find things that unite us, this could be the economy, taking on billionaires with a wealth tax.
ukstoptrump.bsky.social
@joemulhall.bsky.social of @hopenothate.org.uk speaks to the need to cultivate physical and digital spaces to organise and build power.
ukstoptrump.bsky.social
Amna adds: Majority of people don’t believe in Reform’s politics but they are silent. They don’t like the trajectory of the country under Labour but they aren’t actively participating: we must mobilise them in a hopefully & tangible way.

People must come together, & Labour must change direction.
ukstoptrump.bsky.social
Amna from the Three Hijabis says a lot of women are burnt out from the Islamophobic narrative, so they created safe spaces of connection.

Community forums have been vital in allowing people to get help directly, and address the feeling of powerlessness that many are feeling.
ukstoptrump.bsky.social
People are drawn to a hopeful message but we have collectively failed to offer that, Shabna Begum continues, and we need to be on the ground in communities, and be hyper local. But we must act, not just talk.

@runnymedetrust.bsky.social
ukstoptrump.bsky.social
Shabna of continues: it’s not just keeping Reform out, but keeping Reformism (Reform’s *politics*) out of our political sphere. Huge coordination needed, whilst also needing to protect our communities who are facing violence directly at street-level.
ukstoptrump.bsky.social
Shabna comes in: we must all recognise this is not just a professional issue but people’s lived experience - these are hard conversations.

Pivots to opportunity for us to posit and alternative - as current Govt has no vision.
ukstoptrump.bsky.social
Laura Parker elaborates on the enabling environment of corporate interests and ties to think tanks and politicians.

So, how does the Left and progressives work together to build power and unpick this?
ukstoptrump.bsky.social
@maybulman.bsky.social: Larry Ellison is set to be the main owner of TikTok, see how Musk has taken control of ‘X’, the super rich control of our social media has allowed disinformation to thrive and the far right feeds off this.
ukstoptrump.bsky.social
Now @maybulman.bsky.social of @lighthousereports.com speaks to recent investigation of the Tony Blair Institute receiving funding from Larry Ellison and the ties of big tech to the far-right.
ukstoptrump.bsky.social
And finally, @minnierahman.bsky.social says on Trump, migration sector is clear: Farage/Reform are learning from Trump/MAGA. Infrastructure for detention and raids being set up now will be used under a Reform Govt. They would not learn from Trump’s first term, they would just install “Trump term 2”.
ukstoptrump.bsky.social
@minnierahman.bsky.social adds the Govt now creating a two-tier society and political parties must champion that it is fine to be migrant, to seek asylum and to be a person of colour.
ukstoptrump.bsky.social
@minnierahman.bsky.social: Civil society is under attack: this is a tactic used by the far-right globally, seeking to distill the idea that you can’t or shouldn’t provide for your community. Rest of civil society has not stepped in to speak against this.
ukstoptrump.bsky.social
Now, @minnierahman.bsky.social of @praxisprojects.bsky.social speaks to far-right targeting of migrants in the UK, and the targeting of staff working in migrants’ rights charities.
ukstoptrump.bsky.social
@joemulhall.bsky.social: Class analysis is essential: many people moving to the far right all agree the status quo isn’t working.

A national movement is needed AND a Government that meets people’s material needs. Uncomfortable coalitions necessary.
ukstoptrump.bsky.social
Joe adds; mainstream amount of Islamophobia and racism is greater than ever, & the far-right are excited by this.

Networks are decentralised more than ever: people are becoming radicalised - largely on social media - without even joining anything.
ukstoptrump.bsky.social
@joemulhall.bsky.social of @hopenothate.org.uk says this moment is the largest scale of far-right activity they’ve been monitoring.

Reform have 800 councillors and will win more councils at the local elections in May.
ukstoptrump.bsky.social
Amna Abdullatif: rampant Islamophobia is being used by several political parties and we must name it as such. Islamophobia and racism exist in movements on the left too, and we need to question & challenge it.

Hope is in how we organise locally & build connections, and find new community spaces.
ukstoptrump.bsky.social
Shabna: racism is being exploited to advance authoritarian misuse of state power that will tread on everyone’s rights. Cites Starmer’s introduction of ID cards as misjudged.
ukstoptrump.bsky.social
We’ve a brilliant panel, chaired by our own Laura Parker.

Up first is Shabna Begum of the @runnymedetrust.bsky.social, leading with the need talk about race and class, but also to specifically call out white supremacy.
Panellists sit at a table.
