when you look at the powers trump is claiming and boil it down, he really does seem to see himself as the literal embodiment of the executive branch, if not the entire nation, and thus his authority extends to everything www.washingtonpost.com/entertainmen...
Trump fires director of the National Portrait Gallery
It was unclear if Trump has the authority to fire Smithsonian leaders. The dismissal marks the president’s first action against the institution.

Both are true:

1. Biden was too old. He should’ve been honest about his condition and announced in 2022 he wasn’t running again. Shame on him.

2. Trump is too old. Trump is also a corrupt, lawless, ignorant, cruel, un-American pathological liar & authoritarian. Shame on us.

Must be absolutely horrible to work somewhere where, not even does your boss not have your back, she will fire you if you make what she considers to be a mistake.

I wonder who are “the very important people” that Donald Trump refer to? Is this formulation a new version of the (in)famous “Sir”-stories?
"We’re respected as a country again"

no you're not - the exact opposite in fact. I pity the sane ones in the US right now.

I’m curious what are those “real polls” that puts Donald Trump in the “high 70s” 🙄

Great piece by Andrew Sullivan - as far as I can see, it is spot on with respect to the horror that is the Trump presidency:

That's how Trump sees his opening act. Believe him — or your own lying eyes.

In a sane World, the interview in the Tucker Carlsson podcast would lead to Mr Witkoff either stepping down - or being removed - from his post as Special Envoy. But, of course, in MAGA World it is being celebrated as a magisterial exposition on diplomacy and foreign policy. 🙄🙄🙄
Witkoff on UK troop proposals. “it’s a combination of a posture and a pose and…simplistic. I think there’s this … sort of notion of we’ve all got to be like Winston Churchill, the Russians are gonna march across Europe. I think that’s preposterous” singjupost.com/transcript-o...

We've heard from readers who ask "Why point out DOGE's mistakes? Don't you want them to find waste & fraud?"

What I reply:

Whether you support DOGE's mission or you don't, nobody benefits if DOGE is using bad data. Won't it be harder to find real waste or fraud if their data is plagued by errors?

If Trump was a hall monitor, he would solve the conflict over a bully demanding lunch money by demanding the victim to simply hand over the money without complaining and to ask for some money from the victim for himself also.

From @theguardian.com:
‘Kremlin says Russia's and US foreign policies are in alignment
Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov has said the “foreign policy” of Washington and Moscow is broadly aligned now Donald Trump is in office.’

Great article from @politico.eu - pity that the Trump White House has to little regard for truth and Rule of Law 😩

Elections now would be perilous for Ukraine
Holding elections while fighting an existential war would needlessly imperil Ukrainian cohesion — and the Kremlin would have a field day.

One thing is firing the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs but by replacing him from outside of the ranks means that Trump wants even the US Military to be a political, MAGA-aligned institution.
BREAKING: Donald Trump just fired General CQ Brown (left) and has replaced him with the less qualified Lt. General Dan Caine.

In another first (way to go, Donald), Trump will one day go into history as two of the absolute worst Presidents in US history.

On the other hand, isn’t the World safer when Trump is on the golf course than in The White House?
According to the trump Golf Tracker website, out of 29 days in office so far, trump has spent 7 of them golfing -- that's 24.14% ALREADY.

What a fucking freeloader.

Wonder if Churchill would have preferred leaders like Obama and Biden who tried to maintain the international legal order Churchill helped bring about - or Trump who is doing everything to ruin that order while being even more of an appeaser than Chamberlain?
