We refer to them in the plural since clustering together in a small animal makes them visible, a singular zoomie is too fast to observe.
A Y would be more grammatically correct, but IE feels better to me. Idk if that helps narrow it down.

The more I think about it, your whole problem could’ve been solved by placing the responsibility for all the evil stuff on the demon kings hold on the demons, and they’re free from his thrall once he’s defeated.

Huh. I hadn’t noticed that, I think I assumed since it was a kids movie defeating the demon king reverted everything, but that’s not in the text of the film.
I guess the people are dead? Or they’re demons now? Seems worth an explanation since we see souls getting taken throughout the film.
