Or it could be false and she's trying to bolster her position while retaining legitimacy among the Chavista factions.
Basically, we don't know anything. But clearly, the Chavista regime is still very much in power. The opposition has been undermined for now. Complete uncertainty going forward.

That sounds a lot like Trump is leaving the Chavista regime in place so long as they open up the oil sector to American interests.

I can't think of a more unpopular scenario than that among Venezuelans at home or abroad.

But that's of course assuming US interests were freedom and justice for Venezuela and not the stated revanchist aims of "taking back the oil" and "narco-terrorism".

Taking out any leader the US might not like is the easy part, building prosperity is not. Toppling people in the name of justice or freedom basically never leads to justice or freedom but to more violence and new victims (see Iraq).
