I did not feel nearly as much for Ellie as I did in the game when she fought David. This is supposed to be a traumatizing event for her character and a bonding moment for her and Joel, and it hits so much harder in the game (imo) partially because Ellie was an enjoyable, developed character by then.

Also, at least to me, she comes across as incredibly annoying, as she fails to allow any (onscreen) moment to be even a little bit silent. There's no room for silence, because without fail, she fills it up with noise. All of this culminates in the altercation with David.

She has been through a grueling life - definitely enough to warrant growing up and getting your shit together at a young age - so why is she so childish and bratty throughout the entire season?

Basically watching his friend (girlfriend) die, and then act like as much of a childish asshole as she is. In the game, she uses humor to cope and lighten situations. She doesn't disregard the shit that Joel tells her to do because she thinks everything is a joke.

In the TV show, this comes across to me as her being an idiot or an asshole. I cannot fathom going through seeing your best friend die from being infected, getting infected yourself, living to become a macguffin for the rest of the universe, then being anchored to a man who has protected you,

She is treating nearly everything as a joke, and blatantly disregarding the things that Joel wishes of her (like the death pit full of people. Joel told her he didn't want her to see it, but she ignored him, and headed in it's direction anyway.)

(Spoilers) For example: my friend and I were watching the Bill & Frank episode, and there's these little bookends with Joel & Ellie. At the front of the episode, the writing for Ellie while she and Joel are walking, is utterly baffling to me.

What that really means is that it comes down to multiple things. Before you ask, no, I'm not talking about how she looks. I'm talking about how she's written, some aspects of Ramsey's performance, and some aspects of how the episodes are directed.

Also the fight with Taylor and Serrano was insane.
