This is very bad.

The last show I watched was the BBC's "Civilizations: Rise and Fall". So I will be saved by a team of archaeologists, in about 1700 years.

Anybody who'd like to try ELIZA out might want to know that there is a very similar program built into GNU Emacs (start it with M-x doctor).

In the UK, S&H stamps were pink because Green Shield Stamps beat S&H to the trademark.

Imitated in the UK as "Green Shield Stamps", widely adopted. In 1977, the UK chain Tesco stopped participating in the stamps to cut costs. Terry Leahy proposed a loyalty card at Tesco in 1993, but execs were nervous. Leahy was successful and so the modern data-mining-driven loyalty card was born.

I'm not an expert, but I was under the impression that the laws to prevent this are already in place, and they didn't help.

Restoring it was a giant pain for them; Ian described the pain, but there's not enough space in a comment to quote his description of the, er, saga.
